What are nuclear plants used for?

Nuclear power plants are used to generate electricity. They work by using the heat produced by nuclear reactions, typically the fission of uranium or plutonium atoms, to heat water and produce steam. The steam then drives turbines, which generate electricity.

Nuclear power plants can be a reliable source of electricity, and they don't produce greenhouse gas emissions, unlike fossil fuel power plants. However, the radioactive waste produced by nuclear power plants can be dangerous and difficult to dispose of, and there is also the risk of nuclear accidents, like the ones that occurred at the Chernobyl and Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plants.

Another use of Nuclear Plant is in Nuclear marine propulsion which is the use of nuclear power to generate the heat required to produce steam and power a steam turbine in a ship.

Nuclear medicine is also another use of Nuclear Plant, in which small amounts of radioactive material are used in medical procedures to diagnose and treat certain diseases.
