How hot is the Sun?
The surface of the Sun, also known as the photosphere, has an average temperature of about 5,500 degrees Celsius (9,932 degrees Fahrenheit). However, the temperature at the core of the Sun is estimated to be around 15.6 million degrees Celsius (28 million degrees Fahrenheit)! This extreme heat is generated by nuclear fusion reactions taking place at the core, which convert hydrogen into helium. The intense radiation and heat from the Sun drives weather patterns on Earth and supports all life on our planet through photosynthesis in plants.
